Building Dreams, One Step at a Time: 2025 Edition
A List of States Offering Programs for Women- and Minority-Owned Businesses Where to Find Opportunities and Resources Across the U.S.
Here are a few more states across the U.S. that have programs similar to Michigan's, offering contracting opportunities specifically for women-owned and minority-owned businesses. These initiatives aim to promote diversity and provide equitable economic opportunities within state and local government contracts. Remember to always conduct your own research because, as we know, certain opportunities are changing daily.

Finding State-Specific Programs:The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) provides a comprehensive list of state offices dedicated to minority and women business enterprises. These state agencies offer technical and financial assistance to help businesses compete successfully for federal, state, and local government contracts.
Next Steps for Business Owners:
Certification: Obtain the necessary state-specific certifications to qualify as a women-owned or minority-owned business. This often involves meeting ownership and control criteria and completing an application process.
Registration: Register as a vendor with your state's procurement system to access bidding opportunities and receive notifications about relevant contracts.
Networking: Participate in workshops, networking events, and training programs offered by state agencies and local organizations to connect with procurement officials and other business owners.
Stay Informed: Regularly monitor your state's official websites and procurement portals for upcoming bid opportunities and updates to procurement policies.

As we move through 2025, there’s an undeniable energy in the air—one that whispers of fresh starts, big dreams, and bold moves. As a business owner and someone who’s embraced the beauty of retirement, I’ve come to realize that life is about more than just setting goals; it’s about embracing the journey with passion, purpose, and a dash of fun!
Let’s talk about what’s on my plate right now: designing a custom walk-in closet (yes, dreams do come true!), refining my brand, setting pricing strategies, and most importantly, staying healthy while doing it all.
Creating a Space That Inspires
When I think about a custom walk-in closet, it’s not just about the shelves, hangers, or even the shoes. It’s about crafting a space that sparks joy every morning—a space that makes you feel powerful and ready to conquer the day. Just like our businesses, the foundation of anything beautiful lies in thoughtful design and a clear vision.
Strategizing for Success
Branding and pricing are like the heartbeat of any business. This year, I’m diving deeper into what makes my brand unique and irresistible. Whether it’s offering timeless designs, providing exceptional value, or delivering an experience that customers won’t forget, I’m staying laser-focused on how I can stand out.
For any business owner reading this, here’s my advice: don’t be afraid to revisit your brand’s story. Ask yourself: Does it reflect where you are now and where you want to go? If the answer is no, it’s time for a refresh.
Health is Wealth
Being in business is exhilarating, but it can also be exhausting if we’re not taking care of ourselves. That’s why my mornings now start with light exercises, a quick gratitude practice, and a protein-packed breakfast (sometimes). I’ve set exercise goals for 2025 that aren’t about chasing perfection but about consistency. Because when we feel good, we show up better—for our work, our families, our friends, and ourselves.
Planning for a Better Future
Running a business is a lot like planning out your life—it’s about creating a roadmap, setting milestones, and celebrating each win, big or small. This year, I challenge you to revisit your business plan and personal goals. Break them down into actionable steps, and don’t forget to dream big.
Final Thoughts
2025 is our year to shine, to dream, and to make things happen. Whether you’re building a brand, rebranding yourself, or simply living your best life, remember that every great accomplishment begins with a single step.
So, here’s to building walk-in closets, businesses, and lives that inspire us every day. Let’s embrace this year with open hearts, focused minds, and a whole lot of determination.

Michigan State-Level Contracting Opportunities
Mustard Seed Faith: Moving Forward with Your Dreams
State-Level Contracting Opportunities for Women- and Minority-Owned Businesses
How Michigan and Other States Continue to Support Diverse Entrepreneurs
Despite recent federal policy changes, state and local governments, including the State of Michigan, continue to offer contracting opportunities specifically for women-owned and minority-owned businesses. These initiatives aim to promote inclusivity and provide equitable economic opportunities within the state. Remember to always conduct your own research because, as we know, certain opportunities are changing daily.
State-Level Initiatives:
Executive Directive 2023-1:In February 2023, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Directive 2023-1 to enhance the state's contracting process by increasing opportunities for Geographically Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (GDBEs). This directive set a goal for 20% of total expenditures from state departments and agencies to go to GDBEs, which include businesses owned by minorities, women, and veterans in underserved areas.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program: he Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) administers the DBE Program, a federally mandated initiative designed to ensure that firms owned and controlled by minorities, women, and other socially and economically disadvantaged individuals have the opportunity to participate in federally funded MDOT contracts.

Small Business Program (SBP): DOT's SBP is a race- and gender-neutral program aimed at increasing the number of competitively awarded contracts to small businesses, including those owned by women and minorities. This program promotes the use of small businesses in MDOT contract opportunities and offers set-aside contracts for eligible firms.

Local-Level Opportunities:
Local governments and municipalities within Michigan also implement programs to support women-owned and minority-owned businesses. These programs may include set-aside contracts, mentorship opportunities, and resources to assist in the bidding process. Engaging with local chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, and municipal procurement offices can provide valuable information on available opportunities.
Next Steps for Business Owners:
Certification: Obtain the necessary certifications to qualify as a women-owned or minority-owned business. This may include DBE certification through MDOT or other relevant certifications recognized by state and local agencies.
Registration: Register as a vendor with the State of Michigan through the Contract Connect website, which provides information and resources for businesses interested in state contracting opportunities.
michigan.govNetworking: Participate in workshops, networking sessions, and training programs offered by state agencies and local organizations to connect with procurement officials and other business owners.

Have you ever felt stuck, like the world is weighing you down, and your dreams seem further away than ever? It’s so easy to get caught up in everything happening around us—the negativity, the challenges, and the doubts. But here’s the truth: what it looks like isn’t always what it is.
Today, I want to remind you of something powerful. One of my favorite scriptures, 1 Peter 5:7, says: “Cast all your cares upon God, for He cares for you.”
Let that sink in. The Creator of the universe cares about YOU. He sees your struggles, your frustrations, and your dreams—and He wants to help carry the load.
When the Road Feels Tough I know firsthand how easy it is to feel discouraged when things aren’t going the way you planned. You’ve got dreams, and you’ve been working hard, but it feels like the doors keep slamming shut. Maybe you’re thinking, Why isn’t this working? Why am I stuck?
But let me tell you something that changed my perspective: faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains. Yes, it’s tiny, but that’s all God asks of us. When you’re struggling, when the weight feels too heavy, lean into that mustard seed faith and trust that God is working behind the scenes.
What It Looks Like Isn’t What It Is Sometimes, what we see doesn’t match what God is doing. We see obstacles, but He’s clearing a path. We hear "no" after "no," but He’s setting us up for the right "yes." It’s hard to trust in those moments, but faith is about believing in the unseen.
Even when life feels overwhelming, remember this: God’s timing is perfect. He doesn’t abandon us, even when we feel like we’re walking through a storm. The key is to keep moving forward, even if all you can manage is a tiny step.
Hold On to God’s Unchanging Hand. Life is full of changes—seasons shift, people come and go, and circumstances are unpredictable. But God’s hand is steady. He is the one constant you can rely on, no matter what you’re facing.
When I reflect on my own journey, I remember times when I felt like giving up. I’d pray, and nothing seemed to change. But one day, I decided to stop carrying my burdens alone. I cast my cares upon God, just like the scripture says. And you know what? He showed up. Not always in the way I expected, but in ways that reminded me He was there all along.
A Challenge for You. What dream has God placed on your heart? Maybe it’s starting a business, going back to school, or building something you’ve always wanted. Whatever it is, I encourage you to do two things:
Cast your cares on God. Say, “Lord, I trust You with this dream. Guide me and give me strength.”
Take one step forward. It doesn’t have to be big—write down your goals, reach out to a mentor, or research your next steps. Small actions lead to big results when God is in it.
Speak Life Over Yourself When doubt creeps in, remind yourself of who you are in Christ:
You are more than a conqueror.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
God has a plan for you, and it is GOOD. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Let’s Move Forward Together. As we walk into this week, let’s focus on faith over fear. It’s okay to feel discouraged sometimes—that’s human. But don’t stay in that place. Trust that your mustard seed of faith is enough, and hold on to God’s unchanging hand.
You’ve got this, and most importantly, God’s got YOU.
